Understanding Campaigns
What is a campaign?
A campaign defines how affiliates promote your business and earn commissions.
Think of a campaign as a set of rules that determines where affiliates send visitors and how they get rewarded for the conversions they generate.
Each campaign has its own settings, including:
- Tracking Links: Each affiliate participating in a campaign receives a unique tracking link associated with that campaign.
- Destination URL: The website or landing page visitors are redirected to when they click an affiliate's tracking link.
- Payouts: The events that generate commissions, such as registrations or purchases, and how much affiliates earn for each event.
An affiliate can participate in multiple campaigns, with a separate tracking link for each one.
How does it work?
Let's say an affiliate participates in two campaigns:
Campaign A
- Destination: Store A
- Commission: 10% per sale
Campaign B
- Destination: Store B
- Commission: $1 per registration and 15% per sale
The affiliate receives a unique tracking link for each campaign.
When someone clicks the affiliate's Campaign A link, they're redirected to Store A. If they make a purchase, the affiliate earns a 10% commission. When someone clicks the Campaign B link, they're redirected to Store B. The affiliate can earn $1 for a registration and 15% for a sale.
The important thing to understand: Each conversion follows the payout rules of the campaign it's attributed to. A conversion attributed to Campaign A can only trigger payouts configured under Campaign A, regardless of which other campaigns the affiliate participates in.
When should you use multiple campaigns?
You don't necessarily need more than one campaign. It depends on how you want to organize your affiliate program.
Here are two common scenarios where multiple campaigns can be useful.
Scenario 1: Promoting different websites or businesses
Imagine your company operates two online stores, Store A and Store B, and you want affiliates to promote both.
You can create a separate campaign for each store:
- Campaign A: Directs visitors to Store A.
- Campaign B: Directs visitors to Store B.
Affiliates can participate in either or both campaigns and receive a separate tracking link for each store. You can also configure different payouts for each campaign, allowing Store A and Store B to have their own commission structures.
Scenario 2: Offering different commission rates
Imagine you operate a single website but want to reward certain affiliates with higher commission rates.
You can create two campaigns:
- Standard Campaign: Pays 10% commission per sale.
- VIP Campaign: Pays 15% commission per sale.
Both campaigns direct visitors to the same website, but each has different payout rules.
This allows you to offer different commission structures without needing separate websites.
For example, when you promote an affiliate from Standard to VIP, you can assign them to the VIP campaign so that conversions attributed to their VIP campaign links follow the higher commission rate.
Do you need more than one campaign?
If all your affiliates promote the same website under the same commission structure, one campaign is usually enough.
Consider creating additional campaigns when you want to:
- Promote different websites or landing pages.
- Offer different commission structures to different affiliates.
- Separate affiliate programs with different tracking or payout settings.
In short: Campaigns give you the flexibility to manage different promotional activities and commission structures within the same Tracknow account. Each campaign operates according to its own settings, so you can decide exactly how affiliates promote your business and earn commissions.
